nzski.com is the premier web site for three of the major commercial ski fields in the South Island of New Zealand: Coronet Peak and The Remarkables in Queenstown, and Mt Hutt in Canterbury. The site is used by thousands of people each day to plan their ski trips.

The System

The site uses a web-based content management system that enables ski-field staff to update the site content from the mountain. The system acts as a portal, collating information from multiple sources and disseminating it to third parties as well as to the main nzski.com site.

There are many features, including:

• live information updated regularly from each mountain, including snow reports
• repository of rich media including live images from webcams
• site acts as an information clearing house by using XML to send data to third parties
• ski field reports sent as text messages to subscribers' mobile phones

• a trade and media area (requires authenticated login) where publicity copy, images etc can be downloaded
• e-commerce facility to purchase everything from ski passes to flights
